Due to the situation in Lithuania and the world, the interview is moving to the virtual space. This practice really saves the employer so much time, and we believe that remote interviews will be increasingly used in the future. We have been successfully using remote interview practices for more than 6 years, so we share with you practical tips on how to effectively prepare for an interview, how to behave during it, and what is important to pay attention to after the interview.

We believe that every stage is very important, so we wish you a happy reading!

Preparation for the interview (take 5-10 minutes):

  • Make sure that the device and application through which you will communicate with the employer work smoothly, for example: camera, sound. Use the help of friends and relatives and simulate the call.
  • Have a backup: If the first device or app you intend to communicate with during the interview experiences a technical glitch, you can immediately switch to another device or app and continue the interview without too much stress.
  • Turn off the web pages on your device that will be unnecessary and stop the amount of data sent - this will definitely improve the quality of the video call.
  • Choose a comfortable place for the conversation so that no one disturbs you. It is advisable that the visual background behind you be as neutral as possible.
  • Choose a modest outfit, more likesmart casual". Since you're at home, a very business-like outfit won't do.
  • Keep a glass of water handy so you can drink it when you're thirsty. This practice will definitely reduce stress!
  • Make sure you have a piece of paper and a pen with you so you can jot down the highlights of the interview.

During the interview:

  • Maintain eye contact and look directly into the camera.
  • At the beginning of the interview, inform the interviewer how you will behave in case of technical problems, and if you encounter technical obstacles, feel free to take the planned actions by connecting to another equipment or program.
  • At the beginning of the interview, also warn the interviewer about extraneous sounds such as children, animals or health problems: coughing, sneezing.
  • Do not forget that during the interview you present yourself, so your goal remains the same as during the "live" interview 🙂

After the interview:

  • Feel free to ask questions to the employer, as this way you will reveal your motivation for the open position.
  • Invite the interviewer to join your circle of contacts on Linkedin.
  • Be prepared to sign employment contracts or other necessary employment documents remotely.
